Features
- The Hubbell tradeSELECT HVB1BAR is a specialized polyethylene boot designed to enclose a single-gang electrical box. Its primary purpose is to maintain the integrity of a home's vapour barrier system by preventing air leakage and moisture migration through the wall openings created for switches and outlets—an essential requirement for energy-efficient construction in cold climates.
- Manufactured from a tough, flexible transparent polyethylene, the HVB1BAR is designed to be installed over a device box before the drywall is applied. Its flexible nature allows it to withstand extreme cold temperatures without cracking, ensuring that the seal remains intact even during the harsh winters common in Northern regions.
- The unit features a wide, flat flange that provides a large surface area for the application of acoustical sealant or vapour barrier tape (like Tuck Tape). This ensures a seamless, air-tight bond between the polyethylene wall sheathing and the electrical box, effectively blocking "phantom drafts" and improving the overall R-value of the wall assembly.
- To simplify the rough-in process, the back of the boot features integrated "bumps" or entry points. These allow the electrician to make a small, precise incision for the electrical cables (NMD90/Romex), ensuring the opening is just large enough for the wire and maintaining the most effective seal possible around the cable entry.
- The HVB1BAR is a universal accessory designed to fit standard 2" x 3" single-gang device boxes up to 3 inches deep. Whether you are using a metallic Iberville box or a non-metallic Hubbell box, the 2.5-inch deep boot provides ample clearance for the box itself while allowing it to be recessed properly for the finished wall.
