- 50VA Open-Core Control Transformer: Economical and Efficient The HPS SP50PR is part of the Spartan® series, designed for industrial applications where high inrush or "machine tool duty" is not required. It is a 50VA, single-phase, dry-type transformer that provides an economical way to step down power for light-duty control circuits, signaling, and alarm systems across Canadian commercial and industrial sites.
- The SP50PR features a multi-voltage design. It can accept either 120V or 240V AC on the primary side and output either 12V or 24V AC on the secondary side. This makes it a perfect "service-van staple" for Canadian technicians, as one unit can handle various low-voltage control tasks, from 24V HVAC thermostats to 12V DC-rectified power supplies.
- This is an "open-core" transformer, meaning it is intended for installation inside a larger electrical enclosure. Its compact footprint—roughly 2.6 times 3.35 times 2.6 inches —allows it to fit into tight spaces on a sub-panel, providing dedicated low-voltage power without the bulk of a larger, enclosed unit.
- The transformer is equipped with rugged molded terminal blocks using combination slot/Phillips #6 screws. This ensures a gas-tight, vibration-resistant connection, which is critical for long-term reliability in Canadian factories. All units are supplied with primary and secondary voltage jumpers (links), making field configuration fast and error-free.
- Utilizing a Class 130°C insulation system with an $80\text{°C}$ temperature rise, the SP50PR is built for longevity. The coils are vacuum-impregnated with polyester resin and oven-cured, which protects the copper windings from moisture and reduces the "hum" often associated with smaller control transformers.
