Features
- The Bussmann GMA-5-R is a standard 5 x 20mm glass tube fuse. This is the most common metric small-dimension fuse used globally in power supplies, consumer electronics, and laboratory instruments found across Canada. The "R" suffix indicates that the fuse is RoHS compliant (lead-free).
- This fuse is rated for 5 Amps at 125V AC (also commonly used in 250V AC applications with a lower interrupting rating). It is a Fast-Acting fuse, meaning it is designed to open almost instantly when an overcurrent is detected. This provides critical protection for sensitive electronic components that cannot tolerate even brief surges.
- The clear glass body allows for immediate visual troubleshooting. You can quickly see if the internal element has melted or if there is "clearing" (dark splatter) inside the tube, which usually indicates a high-energy short circuit. This makes it a favorite for Canadian technicians who need to diagnose equipment issues at a glance.
- As a glass-bodied fuse, the GMA series has a Low Breaking Capacity. It is typically rated to safely interrupt 10,000A at 125V AC or 200A at 250V AC. It is intended for "supplemental protection" within a device; it should not be used as the primary branch circuit protector for a building.
- The GMA-5-R features nickel-plated brass endcaps, which provide excellent electrical conductivity and superior resistance to corrosion. This is particularly important in varying Canadian climates where humidity might otherwise cause oxidation on untreated copper or brass contacts.
