Description
QO Load Centers offer premium features by allowing QO breakers, ground fault interrupters, arc fault interrupters, and surge arresters to be installed inside. QO Load Centers are designed for residential and industrial use to protect electrical systems, equipment, and people. They are available in both traditional and plug on neutral configurations. There is 3 types of mains available. There is main circuit breaker, main lugs, and generator panel. Single and three phase options are available. The bus bars are tin plated copper and are shielded. Indoor and outdoors enclosures are an option. QO Load Centers enable the use of a full complement of accessories. This 1 phase load center has 8 spaces and 8 circuits. This system provides 100A convertible main lugs in a NEMA 1 enclosure. It also includes a surface cover, and is UL rated. The load center is CSA certified.
Features
- The Schneider Square D QO8L100S is a compact, single-phase fixed main lug load center. It serves as a secondary distribution point (sub-panel) for electrical circuits, housing circuit breakers that protect downstream branch wiring. Because it is a "Main Lug" (L) and not a "Main Breaker" unit, it is typically fed from a primary breaker located in a larger main service panel.
- The "8" in the part number indicates it can hold up to 8 single-pole QO breakers. Since it is a 1-phase, 3-wire system, it can also accommodate up to 4 double-pole breakers (for 240V loads like heaters or small machinery). It is rated for a maximum of 100 Amps, making it ideal for garage workshops, home additions, or small commercial equipment sheds.
- The "S" indicates that this model is designed for surface mounting. The enclosure is intended to be bolted directly onto the face of a wall (such as plywood or masonry) rather than being recessed between studs. This is common in utility rooms, basements, and industrial settings where aesthetics are less critical than ease of access.
- The QO8L100S is housed in a NEMA 1 indoor-rated enclosure. It is made of shielded sheet steel with a gray baked-enamel finish. It is designed to protect against accidental contact with live parts and falling dirt in dry, indoor environments. For outdoor or wet locations, a NEMA 3R version (like the QO8L100RB) would be required.
- Unlike many entry-level load centers that use aluminum, the QO8L100S features a shielded copper bus bar. Copper provides superior conductivity and runs cooler than aluminum. Additionally, the QO "plug-on" design is widely considered the "Gold Standard" by electricians for its secure mechanical connection and long-term reliability.
