• The Schneider Electric (Square D) VHU363GL is a 100-Amp, 3-pole, non-fusible safety switch. It is a step up in power from the 60A models, designed for larger 3-phase industrial loads. Built to the "Heavy Duty" standard, it is engineered to handle frequent switching cycles under high load in demanding Canadian environments like mines, mills, and large-scale manufacturing.
• As a non-fusible disconnect, this switch does not provide overcurrent protection itself; instead, it provides a safe, mechanical "open" point in the circuit. It is used to satisfy CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) requirements for a local disconnecting means within sight of the motor or equipment, allowing maintenance staff to work safely while the upstream breaker handles the circuit protection.
• The unit is housed in a rugged NEMA Type 3R galvanized steel enclosure with a grey polyester powder coat finish. It is designed to shed rain and resist ice formation, making it the standard choice for Canadian outdoor installations, such as large commercial rooftop HVAC units, exterior chillers, or pumping stations.
• The "GL" suffix is a major feature for installers. It means the switch comes with factory-installed ground and neutral lugs. In many Canadian jurisdictions, having these pre-installed ensures a cleaner, faster inspection process and saves the contractor the cost and hassle of sourcing separate lug kits for bonding and grounding.
