Description
Stab-Lok circuit breakers are one, two, and three pole thermal magnetic circuit breakers that provide arc fault circuit interrupters for Federal Pioneer panels. They have easy to read color coded handles to differentiate ampere ratings. This breaker is a two pole 40A, 120/240VAC moulded case breaker with plug in mounting. This circuit breaker meets CSA standards.
Features
- The NC0240 is a "plug-on" thermal-magnetic circuit breaker. It is designed to protect branch circuits from overloads and short circuits. While the NC line has largely been superseded by the Homeline (CHOM) series in modern installations, many NC units remain in service across Canada today.
- Rated for 40 Amps, this is a double-pole breaker, meaning it occupies two slots in the panel and provides 240V power. It is most commonly used for: Electric Ranges (stoves). Electric Water Heaters. Smaller Central Air Conditioning units. Sub-panel feeders for garages or sheds.
- Like the Homeline series, the NC0240 is a 1-inch wide per pole format (2 inches total width). This differentiates it from the premium QO line, which uses a 3/4-inch format. It is important to note that while they look similar, NC breakers and Homeline breakers are not always officially interchangeable in older enclosures; you should always verify the label on your specific load center.
- The breaker uses a bimetallic strip for thermal protection (handling sustained overloads) and an electromagnetic solenoid for magnetic protection (reacting instantaneously to high-current short circuits). This "dual-action" ensures the breaker protects your home's wiring from overheating and fire hazards.
- The NC0240 features robust screw-pressure plate lugs. These are designed to hold copper or aluminum wiring securely. For a 40-amp circuit, you will typically be landing #8 AWG copper wire into these terminals to meet Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) standards.
