Description
HEPD whole house devices are designed to deliver AC surge protection for the entire AC power system in a home. HEPDs are compact in size and are designed to protect AC wires in the home from surges that could affect home electronics and appliances not connected to surge strips. For use on 120/240 VAC single phase, 3 wire systems with an isolated ground. This device provides 25 kA of short circuit protection and 80 kA of surge protection per phase and comes in consumer package. The surge protection device is in a NEMA 4X housing. The surge protection device is UL listed and CSA rated. This product comes with an 5 years warranty.
Features
- The 80kA per phase surge current rating is significantly higher than most plug-in surge strips. While a standard power bar might handle a small spike, the HEPD80 is built to divert massive amounts of excess energy safely to the ground before it ever reaches your expensive devices. This high capacity ensures the unit can withstand multiple smaller surges over its lifetime without needing replacement.
- The unit is housed in a NEMA Type 4X non-metallic enclosure. This rating means it is watertight, dust-tight, and corrosion-resistant. For many Canadian homes where the electrical panel is in a damp basement or even mounted outdoors (common in some BC or coastal regions), the 4X rating provides peace of mind that the device will remain functional in harsh environments.
- One of the best features of the HEPD80 is that it is not brand-specific. While made by Square D, its nipple-mount design allows it to be attached to any brand of electrical panel (Siemens, Eaton, ABB, etc.) via a standard 1/2-inch knockout. This makes it an ideal universal upgrade for any Canadian residence regardless of the existing panelboard manufacturer
- The unit features a bright Green LED on the front cover. When the LED is lit, the device is active and providing protection. If the LED goes out, the internal components have sacrificed themselves to stop a major surge, and the unit needs to be replaced. This simple visual cue ensures you never have to wonder if your home is still protected.
- While it can be "hard-wired" directly to the bus, Schneider recommends connecting the two black wires of the HEPD80 to a 20-Amp 2-pole circuit breaker. Using a breaker allows for a dedicated disconnect point and makes future replacement much safer and easier without having to shut down the main power to the entire house.
